Housing for the Coastal Studies Institute
Coastal Housing Studio (2015)
Project Summary
Located on Roanoke Island, the UNC Coastal Studies Institute (CSI) currently consists of a research building and boathouse carefully placed on a marshy habitat. The campus experience is one of openness, magnified by the immense scale of the flat, surrounding landscape. This project sought to both preserve this experience and create a new one by proposing a residential complex not on the existing site, but in a very different one: a wooded area adjacent to the main campus.
