Madalyn Baldwin, PLA, ASLA, GISP | Assistant Research Professor
Madalyn specializes in the assessment of large-scale landscape systems, including geospatial analytics, planning for complex environmental networks, and ecological integration of native and threatened plant communities. Madalyn holds a Master of Landscape Architecture degree from the NC State Department of Landscape Architecture and Environmental Planning.
Leslie Bartlebaugh, PLA, ASLA, ISA Certified Arborist® | Extension Specialist
Leslie is a licensed, professional landscape architect (PLA) and an ISA Certified Arborist with a multidisciplinary background in both the public and private sectors. Her work encompasses the horticulture, construction, natural resource, and design and planning industries with a focus on solutions that promote ecological, cultural, and economic health and inclusivity. She is focused on innovative planning, engagement, and implementation strategies for flood recovery and resilience programs, leadership in identifying, facilitating, and overseeing the implementation of community resilience initiatives, and research on landscape ecology and ecologically focused planting design. Leslie also teaches courses in the NC State LAEP focused on landscape ecology, plant identification, and ecological planting design.
Marybeth Campeau, Associate ASLA, SITES AP® | Research Associate
Marybeth has a background in design management, publication design, and communications. Her work is focused on social and ecological resilience, biodiversity conservation, and adaptive management. Marybeth holds a Master of Landscape Architecture degree from the NC State Department of Landscape Architecture and Environmental Planning.
Andrew “Andy” Fox, PLA, FASLA | Director, Co-Founder + Professor
Andy is a Professor of Landscape Architecture and Environmental Planning, University Faculty Scholar, NC State Community Engaged Faculty Fellow, and co-founder of the CDDL. As a professional landscape architect, the goal of his work is tangible, actionable change in the public realm. His teaching, scholarship, and engagement activities focus on people/water relationships, with expertise in green infrastructure, high-performing public landscapes, and resilient community design. His projects have been published in professional journals, books and proceedings, presented at national and international venues, and received numerous national and international honors and awards.
Claire Henkel, Associate ASLA | Research Associate
Claire has local and international experience in bilingual (Spanish/English) community outreach, environmental education and, regenerative agriculture. She is passionate about exploring and implementing innovative engagement strategies that inspire place-specific programming opportunities in resilient, productive landscapes. Claire holds a Master of Landscape Architecture degree from the NC State Department of Landscape Architecture and Environmental Planning.
David Hill, FAIA | Co-Founder + Professor
David is Professor and Head of the School of Architecture and a co-founder of the CDDL at the College of Design, where he has taught full-time since 2007. He is also a NC State University Faculty Scholar and Center for Geospatial Analytics Faculty Fellow. While at NC State, David has led graduate and undergraduate design studios, digital representation courses, and seminars that focus on integrative digital simulation processes, architectural prototypes, and design strategies for coastal regions.
Travis Klondike, PLA, ASLA | Associate Director + Associate Research Professor
Travis serves as the Associate Director of the CDDL. He is also an Associate Research Professor in the NC State Department of Landscape Architecture & Environmental Planning. His work focuses on helping communities better adapt to natural hazards and climate change by leveraging contemporary methods of geospatial analysis, public engagement, visual narration, and grant-writing as catalysts for public good.
