Project Summary

The CDDL collaborated with the Coastal Studies Institute (CSI) and East Carolina University (ECU) Outer Banks Campus administration, faculty, and staff to develop educational signage to support outdoor teaching and research activities across the campus.

The signage is designed to communicate a range of sustainable building, landscape, and management best practices, including but not limited to a focus on native NC plant communities, wetland plants, resilient construction materials, flood plain development and management, coastal plain soils, traditional development materials, coastal development regulations, and universal design.

Coastal Dynamics Design Lab

The mission of the Coastal Dynamics Design Lab (CDDL) is to organize and lead trans-disciplinary research and design teams to address critical ecological and community development challenges in vulnerable coastal regions and shoreline communities, with a concentrated focus on Eastern North Carolina and the Mid-Atlantic coastal plain.
